What is SAMe?
S-adenosylmethionine(SAMe) is a physiologically active substance that exists in all tissues and body fluids of the human body. It serves as a methyl donor (transmethylation) and a precursor (transsulfuration) for biochemical compounds with a sulfur group (such as cysteine, taurine, glutathione, and coenzyme A) and participates in over 40 important biochemical reactions in the body. It is closely linked to the biosynthesis of proteins, nucleic acids, neurotransmitters, phospholipids, and vitamins.
